Bike Night

Cornhole Tournament

The 2022 Marion Popcorn Festival Cornhole Tournament is Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the Center Street Beer Garden. Check-in begins at 9:00 am and the tossing starts at 12:00 noon.

Registration is $40 per team or $20 per individual.

Cash prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.

Lita Ford

Lita Ford’s career began in 1975 as a founding member and guitarist of the groundbreaking all female group the Runaways. The groups hard rock / punk edge spawned hits like “Cherry Bomb” and “Queens of Noise”. Lita and the Runaways proved their timelessness in 2014 when “Cherry Bomb” was featured in the critically acclaimed Marvel / Disney Studios hit movie “Guardians Of The Galaxy” and was nominated for a Grammy Award.

In 1983 Lita launched her carrier as a solo artist with her début album “Out For Blood” establishing her as the premier female performer in rock and Heavy Metal. 2018 celebrated the 30th anniversary of the self-titled multi platinum “Lita” album. Released on February 2nd 1988 the “Lita” album boasted four charting hit singles. “Back to the Cave”, “Falling In and Out of Love” (co written with Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx) along with the world wide mega hits “Kiss me Deadly”, nominated for the MTV Video Music Awards Best Female Video of the year and the certified gold ballad single “Close my Eyes Forever” featuring Ozzy Osbourne, which remained in the Billboard top 10 for 25 weeks.

Ford was presented with the Guitar Player Lifetime Achievement Award, the Guitar Player Certified Legend Award and induction into the Guitar Player Hall of Fame. She was chosen as the recipient of the coveted Icon Award and was also bestowed the title of The First Lady of Rock Guitar by Marshall Amplification and Guitar Player Magazine.

Lita and her long-time band mates Patrick Kennison (Guitar), and Bobby Rock (Drums) and Marten Andersson (Bass) continue to tour at her normal feverish pace. Ford continues to encourage and inspire aspiring musicians by teaching and mentoring through here work with Rock and Roll Fantasy Camps.

Parmalee

The members of KatMandu, a Bob Seger Tribute Band, have been singing, performing, and playing in sync as if they’d been together their entire musical careers. Throughout the course of the band’s union, they have won over the hearts of music lovers from all walks of life, performing at a variety of venues, and making loads of public appearances. Band members include Lonnie Fletcher – Lead Vocals, Eric Kot – Sax, Kirk Nelson – lead guitar, Greg Simmerlein – bass, Tom Mulawka – drums, and Dan McCarthy – piano and keyboards.

Old Skool

The Elton Experience by Tommy Lee Thompson

The Elton Experience by Tommy Lee Thompson will take place on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Marion Palace Theatre. This is a free General Admission event, due to the generosity of Fahey Bank and Aqua Ohio.

Tommy Lee Thompson started the Elton John Experience in Put In Bay Ohio in 2011 and has been entertaining audiences across the country with the show, opening for such acts as Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, Marshall Tucker, Foghat, Humble Pie, and Sawyer Brown. The Elton John Experience brings to life the essence of Elton John’s music and mannerism like no one else can.

“We are very excited to be back at the Palace with this amazing show” said Marion Popcorn Festival President Darl Snyder. “The name ‘Popcorn Matinee’ incorporates the afternoon performance and a nod to the treasured venue. We hope that anyone who wants to visit the Popcorn Festival during a quieter time will take this opportunity to explore downtown Marion during the festival and also enjoy this performance, which of course is free admission like the rest of our entertainment presentations.”

Knight After Knight

Knight After Knight is a talented Marion-based musical group headed by Tamela Knight and Larry Knight. Tamela was named “2016 Female Vocalist of the Year” and the “2016 Most Promising Female Entertainer of the Year” by North America Country Association International. Knight After Knight covers several music genres and also performs their own original songs.

Sneaky Pete & the Players

Sneaky Pete and The Players is a high-energy 5-piece cover band comprised of seasoned musicians playing rock hits form the ‘70s to today. They play extensively in the Marion area and will also be rocking the Marion Popcorn Festival’s “Poppin’ Party Stage” on Friday evening.

Fine Arts Competition, Show, and Sale

MOFAS Popfest logoMOFAS 2022 POPFEST ART SHOW is a juried fine art competition held at the Brickyard, 135 South Main Street in Marion, on September 8th, 9th & 10th, 2022.

The entry fee is $10/piece for members of MOFAS and $20/piece for non-members with a limit of four pieces per artist. Checks should be made payable to MOFAS (Mid Ohio Fine Art Society). You can send your completed form and check to MOFAS, P.O. Box 459, Marion, Ohio 43302. Or, you may bring it with you when you drop off your artwork.

Media & Presentation:
Original work in all media is acceptable. No kits, bazaar items or commercial art will be accepted. Photographic prints from the artist’s original image and processed by that artist or under her/his supervision are acceptable. All work must be framed and ready to exhibit with hanging wire (please, no sawtooth hangers). Please indicate the top of the piece so it is displayed correctly. For pieces larger than 36”, please indicate size on entry form.

Exhibition Information:
Work will be accepted on Wednesday, September 7 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Absolutely no entries will be accepted after 5:30.

If you did not pre-register (preferred), participants will need to come to the Brickyard to fill out the registration form and pay their entry fee/s.

Work must be picked up on Sunday, September 11 between noon and 2:00.

The show has a limit of 200 pieces. Entries are accepted on a first come basis.

Jurors, Categories & Awards:
All work will be judged by a panel of experts. Entry categories are:

  • Painting–Works created with fluid media in oils, acrylics, watercolor, etc.;
  • Drawing–Works created using dry media including chalk, charcoal, pastels, pencil, crayon, or, ink mediums, markers or washes applied by pen or brush;
  • Photography– Photographic prints; Sculpture–Three dimensional in any medium;
  • Mixed Media–Pieces that incorporate more than one type of physical material/medium to produce, including fiber art.

Artists may enter in multiple categories.

Judging of all entries will commence at 5:30 p.m. on September 7 with only the judges present. Judges will be required to follow current Marion County Health protocols. Once finished, the ribbon winners will be announced on the MOFAS website http://www.midohiofineart.wixsite.com/midohiofineart and on the MOFAS FaceBook page. Information will be shared with the local news agencies as well as Popcorn Festival officials.

Ribbons will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places winners in each category. In addition, each category will have two merit awards. All 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive a monetary prize as well as the ribbon. There will be a Best of Show award, a MOFAS Award and the People’s Choice. People’s Choice votes will be accepted at the Brickyard during open hours. Votes are $1.00/each or 6 for $5.00.
