2007 WEE POPS
 

MARION, OH – Makenzie Sharp and Luke Strine were named Miss and Mr. Wee Pop 2007 during competition held Saturday at River Valley High School auditorium.  Crowned as Miss Wee Pop 2007, Sharp is 39 months old and  is the daughter of and Jason and Shanna Sharp of Marion.  Earning the title of Mr. Wee Pop 2007, 3½–year-old Strine is the son of Doug and Kara Strine of Marion. The 2007 Wee Pops will be featured on the Main Stage of the Marion Popcorn Festival.  They will also ride in the Festival Parade, and represent the Marion Popcorn Festival at various parades and events throughout the state. First runner-up to Miss Wee Pop was Lindsey Twigg.  She is the daughter of  Danielle Twigg of Marion and is 26 months old.  Three-year-old, Walker Williams garnered the first runner-up position to Mr. Wee Pop.  He is the son of Nate and Jamie Williams of Marion,.  Categories for Formal Wear, and Costume and Swimwear with a popcorn theme were divided into three age groups:  6 – 23 months, 24 – 35 months, and 36 – 47 months.  The winners of these divisions, order of age, were: 

· Formal Wear:  Braylyn Dyer, Lindsey Twigg, Makenzie Sharp;   overall:  Luke Strine

· Costumes:  Marin Brenlee Curry, Lindsey Twigg, Luke Strine;     overall:  Walker Williams

· Swimwear:  Chelbie Fields, Gracelin Thompson, Walker Williams  overall:  Luke Strine 

Receiving honorable mention awards were:  Emma Organ, Alexiya T. Jones, Mikalah Heavan Collins, Kamberlyn Pelletier-Harris, Keara Winn, Aliza Wright, Alivia K*Lee Burris, Macyn Grace Danals, Emmie Etgen, Mitchel Wallingford, Olivia Grace Seiter, Alyssa King, Madisyn Ryleigh Houseworth, Khamryn Mayes, Riley McCoy, and Alex Twigg. 

A separate photogenic contest was held in conjunction with the main pageant, and the results of this event had no bearing on the outcome of the Wee Pop Pageant.  Contestants were allowed to enter one or both events.  Alivia K*Lee Burris took overall honors as Most Photogenic, with Marin Brenlee Curry  capturing the 6 – 23-month division, Lindsey Twigg won the 24 – 35-month division, and Riley McCoy snared the 36 – 47-month division. 

Candel’s Renovations, Marion Auto Sales and Seismic Drilling were the main sponsors of the Wee Pop Pageant.  Other sponsors included:  Georgia Mills, Rhodes Heating & Air Conditioning, Wal-Mart, Impromptu Stationery, Hearts Entwined, Goldrush Jewelers, Marion Flower Shop, Jerzee, Hemmerly’s, Dolfin Music Service, Perkins, Carol Ault Dance Factory, Greenwood Floor Center, Sisler, Sisler and Sisler, Andrew’s Pastries, CiCi’s Pizza, Precision Auto, McDonalds, The Columbus Zoo, Well-Kaw Glass, L & P Cake, Hughes Studio, Ready-to-Wear, and Wyandot Snack Foods.

“There were 24 entries into the competition,” said Linda Candel, chairman of the event, “and the judges had to make some hard decisions.  They would have all made wonderful Wee Pops.” 

Candel also gave credit to the contestants’ families, “It’s wonderful to see the dedication and creativity the parents and grandparents put into these costumes.  A large part of the judging is ‘Creative Use of Popcorn’ in the costume and swimwear categories.  The outfits and props are amazing.”
