ANNA FOSS MISS TEENY POP 2007

MARION, OH – Anna Foss will wear the Miss Teeny Pop 2007 banner and crown during festivities of the 27th Marion Popcorn Festival.  During competition Sunday at River Valley High School, Foss captured the Overall title in each of the three competitive categories, Modeling, Talent, and Commercial, to cement her win.  The 12-year-old seventh grader at Ridgedale Junior High is the daughter of Peggy & Daren Neuenschwander of Marion and Beau Foss of Mechanicsburg.

First runner up is Brianna Ballinger, daughter of Heidi and Ryan Ballinger of Marion.  A third-grader at Pleasant Elementary, the 8-year- old was her age division winner in all three competitive sections.

Eleven-year-old Megan Oliver snared the second runner up position.  She won her age division in Modeling and Commercial.  In the 7th grade at Grant Middle School, Oliver is the daughter of Dawn Oliver of Marion and Tim Oliver of Marion.

Third runner up Stormee McHargue secured her position by capturing her age division in Modeling.  The daughter of Cindy and Larry McHargue, the 12-year-old will attend Marion Catholic Preparatory School as an eighth grader.

Cassie McDorman garnered fourth runner up honors and won her age division in Talent.  At 12, Cassie is a 7th grader at Northmor Junior High.  Her parents are Steve and Angie McDorman of Mt. Gilead.

Fifth place, a Memorial Award named in honor of Brandi Grosh, went to Samantha Appleman.  The daughter of April Appleman of Marion and Troy Appleman of Galion, she is 11 and attends River Valley Middle School.

The contestants who competed were between the ages of 4 to 12.  Each must do a modeling and talent routine, and a commercial regarding the Marion Popcorn Festival or its theme.  In addition to the overall awards, they vie for honors in four age categories.  Age category winners were:

Honorable mention awards were given to:  Brooklynn DeGood, Alexis Jameson, Chianne Fields, Jaycee Bentley, Samantha Appleman, and Kylee Pelletier.

There were three other honors presented, the results of which had no bearing on the outcome of the Miss Teeny Pop Pageant.  The Joe Maniaci Miss Photogenic was awarded to Brooklynn DeGood.   Most Program Ads and Most Dollar Sold went to Megan Oliver.  Miss Teeny Congeniality, an award voted upon strictly by the contestants and sponsored by Kurry Klingel of Real Living Premier, was presented to Samantha Appleman for the second year in a row.

The new Miss Teeny Pop and her court will be featured on the Main Stage all three nights of the Marion Popcorn Festival.  She, along with her court, will also ride in the Orville Redenbacher Parade, receive front row seats for the entertainment, and represent the Marion Popcorn Festival at various parades and events throughout the state.  Every girl who entered won at least three prizes.

Miss Teeny Pop directors Deb Tinnerello and Jan Bledsoe echoed many of the same thoughts.  “These girls are all so talented and fun to be around,” said Tinnerello, “that it makes – what could be an overly stressful event – very pleasurable.   Seeing the joy on their faces when they’re hard work is recognized with an award or even an honorable mention is just great.”  Bledsoe added, “It may sound cliché to say they all would make wonderful Teeny Pops, but it’s true.”

Tinnerello concluded, “Kudos go out to the parents and grandparents, as well.  They work hard getting everything ready for the commercials, costumes, and such.  I’d like to acknowledge them, as well.”

Event sponsors were Cici’s Pizza, Coppertude, and Applebee’s.  Other sponsors included Ann Walters Orthodontics, Carol Ault’s Dance Factory, Carroll’s Jewelers, Martha Douce Maniaci & Family, Marion Flower Shop, Office Depot Print & Copy Center, Peacock Water, Tim Horton’s and Wyandot Snack Foods.
