Popcorn Cooking Contest Deadline Extended Until Friday

September 3, 2015 by Marion Popcorn Festival

The deadline for the Marion Popcorn Festival’s Recipe Contest has been extended until this Friday.  Entries must be postmarked by Friday, September 4, 2015.   They may also be taken to the OSU Extension Office, located in the Marion County Building, 222 West Center Street.  Be sure to include your name, address, and telephone number.

Judging will take place on Thursday, September 10, in the Marion County Building during the Marion Popcorn Festival. [Read more…]

Entries Sought for 2015 Fine Art Judged Competition, Show & Sale

The 2015 Marion Popcorn Festival Fine Art Judged Competition, Show and Sale is being held September 10, 11, and 12 located at Marion City Hall in downtown Marion.  This event is held in cooperation with the Mid-Ohio Fine Art Society, Inc.  The show is limited to 200 pieces; interested artists should register their work early.

Entry categories include painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and mixed media. Top winners in these categories, along with the People’s Choice Award winners, will be given awards and cash prizes. MOFAS Award includes a one year paid membership to the Mid-Ohio Fine Art Society. [Read more…]

Jennifer Moodie named Miss Teen Popcorn 2015

Karington Reed, Annslea Schaber, Sydney Randal, Miss Teen Popcorn 2015 Jennifer Moodie, Alexis Ritter, Jaden Smith, and Kaylee Wallace.

Jennifer Moodie captured the 2015 Miss Teen Popcorn title Saturday evening in festivities at River Valley High School.

“I was shocked,” said the newly crowned Moodie.  “I thought they had read the wrong number, so it really caught me off guard.  Right now I’m pretty much speechless.”

In her new capacity, Moodie will be featured at all Festival activities, including the Festival’s Popcorn Parade and performing from the main stage.  She will also make numerous appearances throughout Ohio during the coming year. [Read more…]

Miss Teeny Pop 2015 is Marin Curry

Addisen Throckmorton; Hope Hall; Abigail Bennett; Chloe Oliver; Miss Teeny Pop 2015 Marin Curry; Sophia Thompson; Baeleigh Powers; and Faith Scheitler.

Marin Curry was chosen Miss Teeny Pop 2015 on Saturday, August 8, during competition at River Valley High School.  To capture the crown, Curry garnered the top commercial award, as well as competed in modeling and performed a tumbling/hula hoop routine as her talent.

“When I realized I was going to win it was breathtaking,” said 9-year-old Curry.   “I never thought I would be Miss Teeny Pop this year … I’m so excited.”

The 5th grade Johnny Cake Corners Elementary student is the daughter of Marianne and Craig Curry of Galena. [Read more…]

Corwin Crowned 2015 Miss Marion Popcorn Festival

2nd runner up Hunter Boyce, Miss Marion Popcorn Festival 2015 Elizabeth Corwin, 1st runner up Halle Augenstein, and 3rd runner up Ranissa Harrison.

Elizabeth Corwin captured the title of Miss Marion Popcorn Festival 2015 Saturday evening, August 1, during competition at River Valley High School.

By winning the Miss Marion Popcorn Festival title, Corwin earned a $1,000 scholarship, as well as the Festival crown, banner, and a prize package.

“Pinch me, I’m dreaming,” said an amazed Corwin.  “I couldn’t believe it when they said my name … I didn’t think it would happen.  I’ve been in several of the Festival’s pageants over the years, but this is the first time I’ve actually won any of them.”  Corwin continued, “A big thank you to all who have supported me over the years … without that, I don’t think I would have had the confidence to do this today.” [Read more…]

Paige Filliater of Marion was named Ms. Marion Popcorn Festival 2015 during popcorn royalty festivities Saturday evening, August 1, at River Valley High School.  She won a cash award, a crown, banner and prize package.

“I’m so excited … and stunned,” said Filliater.  “I couldn’t believe it when they said I had won the interview … you always second guess yourself when you are done.”  Filliater continued, “I will be so happy to represent this city, which I firmly believe is on the precipice of a revival to what so many people remember.” [Read more…]

Hall and McCarthy named Little Wee Pop Prince and Princess

Sixteen contestants vied for the title of Marion Popcorn Festival’s 2015 Little Wee Pop Prince and Princess at River Valley High School Saturday morning.  Little Wee Pop is designed for children aged 0 – 23 months.

The 2015 Prince is Brantley Hall, the 20-month-old son of Casey Keckler and Dustin Hall of Marion.

The 2015 Princess is 21-month-old Shyanna McCarthy.  She is the daughter of Danielle Oliver and Shawn McCarthy of Marion, and won overall honors in Formalwear. [Read more…]

From a field of 22 contestants, Paul Herr, Jr. and Krissy Klaiber were named Mr. and Miss Wee Pop 2015 during competition held Saturday morning at River Valley High School.

Two-year old Herr is the son of Courtney and Paul Herr, Sr. of Bucyrus.  Klaiber is the daughter of Emily & Kyle Klaiber of Marion.  The three-year-old took her age division in Formalwear and Swimwear, as well as overall Costume honors. [Read more…]
