MARION POPCORN FESTIVAL
ANNOUNCES WINNER OF TORO LAWN MOWER
MARION, OH – On Monday, Marion Popcorn Festival Raffle
Chairperson Marge Ferriman announced the winner of the raffle
for the Zero Turn Toro Lawn Mower sponsored by Miller Lawn &
Power Equipment. Although the rain delayed the drawing until
Sunday, festival organizers were still able complete the
raffle. This year’s winner, Dennis Carr, hails from Herrison,
Tennesee and was very excited about his lucky ticket.

WINNERS NAMED IN
THE MARION POPCORN FESTIVAL’S
FINE ARTS SHOW
MARION, OH – Judging for the 27th
annual Marion Popcorn Festival juried Fine Arts Show was
held Wednesday night at Marion City Hall on West Center
Street.
Winning the coveted Best of Show was
Jennifer McConnaughey with “Generations” in the photography
category. This honor brings with it a cash award of $100.
The winner of the $25 Mid-Ohio Fine Arts
Society Award was Kris Hyland Kolb with “Harmony” in the
medium of photography.
Cash awards and ribbons were also given
to the first ($50), second ($25), and third ($10) place
winners in each of four categories: Painting (includes oil,
acrylic, watercolor, and pastel); Drawing (pencil, ink, and
charcoal); Other- Two Dimensional (photography); and Other –
Three Dimensional (sculpture, glass, pottery, fiber, wood
carving, mixed media, etc.). Entries were judged on
quality, creativity, and appearance.

Those visiting the Fine Arts show will also be able to vote
for the “People’s Choice” award. That recognition will
garner the recipient $50.
The panel of judges who had the difficult
task of determining the winners were Lew Lause, Lannette
Davis, and Marie Denton. Lew Lause, with forty-two years of
experience in commercial photography, has studios in both
downtown Marion and Lima, Ohio. Lannette Davis, an artist,
is the owner of “Lannette’s Art Loft” located above Davis
Realty on Church Street in downtown Marion. Marie Denton is
a self taught artist and potter. She is the owner of “Black
Box Gallery” located in downtown Marion on Center Street.
The Marion Popcorn
Festival Fine Arts Show is sponsored by Badertscher
Communications and is presented in conjunction with the Mid
Ohio Fine Arts Society. All artwork will be displayed
throughout the entire Festival in a gallery-type atmosphere
in the lobby of Marion’s City Hall.

WINDOWS POP THROUGHOUT MARION
MARION, OH – The winners of the Marion Popcorn Festival
window-decorating contest were:

Creators of the first place window
received two Kernel seats for either Hells Bells on Thursday,
country sensation Blake Shelton on Friday, or Gin Blossoms on
Saturday, a blue ribbon; a rotating trophy, and a box of snacks
from Wyandot. Second and third place windows received ribbons
and a box of snacks from Wyandot.

MARION POPCORN FESTIVAL
DISCOUNTED RIDE TICKETS AVAILABLE
MARION, OH –
Discounted tickets for the Marion Popcorn Festival amusement
rides are on sale at all three Marion Sky Bank locations through
Wednesday, September 5.
Sheets of 20
tickets will be available for a price of $12.00, and only full
sheets of 20 tickets will be sold during the pre-Festival sale.
This is a significant savings over ticket prices purchased at
the Festival, and Marion Popcorn Festival organizers are
encouraging area families to purchase their ride tickets early
for the best bargains. During the Festival, sheets of 20 will
be $15; 40 will be $28; and sheets of 60 will be $40.
Burton Brothers
will be handling the ride attractions at the 27th
Marion Popcorn Festival, and all rides and attractions open each
day at 11:00 a.m. Various attractions require a different
number of tickets.
Sky Bank in
Marion has three locations where tickets are available: 1200
Mt. Vernon Avenue, 150 South State Street, and 195 Barks Road.

THE MARION POPCORN FESTIVAL’S
FINE ARTS SHOW
MARION, OH
– The Marion Popcorn Festival will once again present a Fine
Arts Juried Show and Sale September 6, 7, and 8th in
Marion City Hall on West Center Street.
Artwork
will be displayed in a gallery-type atmosphere, and all artists
are invited to enter. Many prizes will be awarded including
$100 to the entry judged “Best of Show”. Awards will be given
to the first, second, and third place winners in each of four
categories: Painting (includes oil, acrylic, watercolor, and
pastel); Drawing (pencil, ink, and charcoal); Other- Two
Dimensional (photography); and Other – Three Dimensional
(sculpture, glass, pottery, fiber, wood carving, mixed media,
etc.). Those pieces selected as winners of the People’s Choice
and the Mid-Ohio Fine Art Society will also receive a cash award
and ribbon.
Entries
will be judged on quality, creativity, and appearance. Any
original art medium is acceptable, but no kits, bazaar items, or
commercial art will be accepted. All work must be framed or
ready for exhibition, and must remain on display at the Fine
Arts Show for the duration of the Marion Popcorn Festival.
The entry
deadline is September 5 at 7:00 p.m. Artists may enter their
work in advance by picking up entry forms at the Marion Chamber
of Commerce, by calling Tim Gorenflo at 740/361-0148 after 6:00
p.m., or by logging onto the Festival’s website at
www.popcornfestival.com. Artists may also enter at Marion
City Hall Wednesday evening between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. However,
absolutely no entries will be accepted after 7:00 p.m. Due to
space restrictions, this show must be limited to a maximum of
200 entries.

MARION POPCORN FESTIVAL
SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT SET
MARION, OH
– The Marion Popcorn Festival 49 Plus Softball Tournament has
been set for Saturday, September 8th, and Sunday, September 9th,
at Garfield and Kennedy Parks. If needed, additional games may
be played on the preceding Tuesday or Wednesday evenings.
The
tournament is open to any team whose members will be 49 or older
by December 31, 2006. Prizes will be awarded to the top three
teams, and play will be a round-robin style tournament with
games Saturday. Sunday’s finals will begin at 1:00 p.m. Rules
from the 50 and Over League will be used for the tournament.
The entry fee is $75.00 per team and the deadline for
registration is August 31, 2007. For more information or to

MARION POPCORN FESTIVAL
GOLF TOURNAMENT WINNERS
MARION, OH – The Marion Popcorn
Festival announced the winners of the golf tournament held
Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Whetstone Golf Course. Nabbing
first- place honors of the 4-person scramble were Becky Sloat,
Carl Sloat, Kelly McGowan, and Wayne Cook. They received a
choice of either golf jackets or Kernel Seat tickets to their
choice of Hells Bells, an AC/DC Tribute Band, Blake Shelton, or
Gin Blossoms.
The second place team consisted
of David Sinchak, Chris Widrig, Greg Martin, and Jeff Baldauf;
while Adam Brinkman, Jack Mesaros, Chuck Oreweiler, and Eric
Michel took third place. Although some players came close, no
one was able to take advantage of the $5,000 hole-in-one prize.

MARION POPCORN FESTIVAL
ANNOUNCES 2007 RAFFLE ITEMS
MARION, OH – The Marion Popcorn
Festival will be selling raffle tickets for a Zero Turn Toro
Lawn Mower and a 2006 Yamaha Vino Red Classic Scooter during
the three-day festival. The Zero Turn Lawn Mower, with a
forty-eight inch cut, is being sponsored by Miller Lawn &
Power Equipment. Thiel’s Wheels Harley-Davidson is
sponsoring the 2006 Yamaha Vino Red Classic Scooter. Two
winning names will be drawn, with the first receiving their
choice of the mower or scooter.
Raffle
tickets will be available both before and during the
festival at a cost of $10.00 per ticket or three tickets for
$25.00. The raffle is open to all persons age 21 or

5K Run
MARION, OH – The Marion Popcorn Festival Popcorn 5000 5K
run, a TAC Certified event, will be held Saturday, September
8, 2007. Entry fees will be $12.00 prior to the
pre-registration deadline of September 5, and $15.00 after
deadline. The first 100 pre-registered participants will
receive T-shirts. Check in and late registration begins at
7:30 a.m. on the day of the race, and the 5K run begins at
9:30 a.m. Event held rain or shine. This event is
sponsored by Sissler & Associates, Smith Dairy, and
Whirlpool Corporation, The Ohio State Bank, and Peacock
Water. Plaques will be awarded to the overall top male and
female runners and trophies will be awarded to the 1st,
2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each
age category. Walkers are also welcome for the 5K power
walk. First, second, and third-place finishers will receive
trophies.

2nd Annual Cornhole
Classic
MARION, OH – The Marion Popcorn
Festival will be hosting their Second Annual Cornhole
Classic tournament on Saturday, September 8th.
Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and tournament play starts
at 12:00 p.m. This event, sponsored by 3-D Concepts, Logan
Tire, Lowe’s, and Rhodes Heating & Air Conditioning, will
award cash prizes to the top teams. The payouts will be
based on the number of overall entries. All teams will be
guaranteed at least two games. Entry fees are $30.00 per
team, cash only, with registration on the day of the

Cornhole
is similar to horseshoes except you use wooden boxes called
cornhole platforms and corn bags instead
of horseshoes and metal stakes. Contestants take turns
pitching corn bags at the platform until a contestant
reaches the score of 21 points. A corn bag in the hole
scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point.

SENIOR CENTER ACTIVITIES
MARION,
OH – The Marion Senior Center is pleased to announce their
location for the Marion Popcorn Festival. The senior
activities will be at a new location this
year! Conveniently located on the main floor of The
Chamber of Commerce/Marion Can Do Building at 205 West
Center Street. Open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. every day
of the festival, this location will offer cold or hot
drinks, popcorn, and a nice place to rest and visit with
friends. Please join us for our island activities including
Pineapple Bingo, a Hawaiian Luau, a Make It & Take-It
