2011 Winners

Judging for the 31st annual Marion Popcorn Festival juried Fine Arts Show was held September 7, 2011 at Marion City Hall.

The Fine Arts Show was successful in recruiting well qualified judges to handle the honor of choosing the winners of the event.  The first judge, an art teacher for the last 34 years, Kris Hyland Kolb currently enjoys teaching photography, graphic design, and jewelry at Marion Harding High School and is also the district art coordinator for the Marion City Schools. She has taken photography courses at Bowling Green State University, Ohio Wesleyan University, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Savannah College of Art and Design, and the Rocky Mountain School of Photography. Kris’s artwork has been displayed in galleries and shows throughout Ohio and she was commissioned to have a piece in the permanent collection of the White House. Her photography has won numerous awards in the central Ohio area.  Our second judge, Diane Watson, has been involved with the advertising and marketing arena for over 30 years. Her professional career included layout and design for advertisements, marketing pieces, web sites, 3-d pieces and more. She continues to use her talents to promote Marion County as a destination as Executive Director for the Marion Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.  Rounding out the judging panel is James M. Fleeson, owner of Cellar Studios Ink, LLC in downtown Mt.

Gilead.  After starting his studies in architecture, followed by thirty years in the computer field, he returned to a career in art.   Mr. Fleeson has also judged for the Ohio State Fair Youth Art Competition, the Morrow County High School Art Competition, the Morrow County Development Office, Photograph contests, and the Popcorn Festive Art Competition.
